Club trip to Mexico: Depths of Discovery

Our recent adventure unfolded in the heart of Mexico. We embarked on a journey to Puerto Aventuras, eager to explore the mystical cenotes hidden within the earth’s embrace. With each dive, we discovered a surreal world beneath the surface, where sunbeams danced through crystal-clear waters, illuminating the awe-inspiring formations that adorned these natural sinkholes. The cenotes revealed a mesmerizing secret, reminding us of the enchanting beauty that lies beneath.

From Puerto Aventuras, we ventured to Cozumel, where the ocean beckoned us to unravel its mysteries. Diving into the vibrant coral reefs, we were welcomed by an explosion of colours and life. The graceful dance of marine creatures captivated our senses, and the gentle currents carried us through an underwater paradise. It was a symphony of sights and sounds that reminded us of the fragile ecosystem we must protect.

An excursion to Islas Mujeres awaited us, promising an encounter with the majestic whale shark. As our boat set sail, excitement filled the air, and the azure waters embraced us. With bated breath, we witnessed this gentle giant, its massive forms gliding effortlessly through the sea. It was a humbling experience, connecting us to the vastness and magnificence of the marine world.

Our journey through time and heritage led us to the ancient Mayan ruins scattered across the Yucatan Peninsula. At Koba, we traversed through the overgrown paths, tracing the footsteps of an ancient civilization. The towering pyramids whispered stories of a forgotten era, as we marvelled at the ingenuity of their construction.

Tulum’s ruins perched upon the cliffs beckoned us with their breath taking views of the turquoise Caribbean Sea. We wandered amidst the weathered stones, imagining the lives that once thrived within these walls. The remnants of a vibrant city spoke of a rich Mayan legacy that resonated deeply within our souls.

Lastly, we stood in awe at Chichen Itza, where the grandeur of El Castillo cast its shadow upon our wonder-filled hearts. The intricate carvings and celestial alignments told tales of a civilization steeped in knowledge and spirituality. Time stood still as we soaked in the awe-inspiring sight, appreciating the immense achievements of those who came before us.

Throughout our journey, the exquisite Mexican cuisine became an integral part of our experience. From savouring the delectable flavours of street tacos to indulging in the richness of traditional dishes, every bite was a celebration of Mexico’s culinary heritage. The melding of spices and the freshness of local ingredients delighted our taste buds, leaving us craving for more.

Tech diving show-and-tell – 17 July 2023

What can I expect if I come?

You’ll get to look at varying types of tech diving kit that the three of us dive. We’ll be showing the ways that the dive community has devised in order to overcome the various technical boundaries of different types of diving that arise as dives go deeper, longer, farther. These boundaries are, among other things, gas capacity, gas composition, and dive complexity. You’ll see typical configurations for diving twinsets, diving with stage tanks, and diving with rebreathers (depending on timing you can see either 2 or 3 different rebreather models and configurations).

The basic question is, how can we push all the boundaries of the underwater world, and do it safely? These are solutions that come from the exploration, commercial diving, and scientific communities.

We’ll do this very hands-on – a few pictures and videos, but for the most part you’ll be looking at the kit to understand how it works. There might be some diagrams on a flipchart that we draw by hand, but don’t expect a lecture. Your questions and thoughts are welcome.
